An HTML photo album generator that supports themes. It takes directories of images and creates all the thumbnails and HTML that you need. It's fast, easy to use, and very powerful. album is a perl script, which means you need to be comfortable with or prepared to use the command-line. If you just want a point-and-click, you may wish to look elsewhere.

Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Blender is the open source software for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback. Available for all major operating systems under the GNU Public License.

Comix is a user-friendly, customizable image viewer. It is specifically designed to handle comic books, but also serves as a generic viewer. It reads images in ZIP, RAR or tar archives (also gzip or bzip2 compressed) as well as plain image files. It is written in Python and uses GTK+ through the PyGTK bindings.

digiKam is a simple digital photo management application for KDE, which makes importing and organizing digital photos a "snap". The photos can be organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically, by directory layout or by custom collections. F-Spot is a full-featured personal photo management application for the GNOME desktop. mport your photos from your hard drive, camera (including PTP type), or iPod. Photos can be tagged for searching and grouping, and the timeline gives quick sense of temporal location, and quanity of photos taken. F-Spot can view and export EXIF and XMP metadata in your images. Other features include fullscreen and slideshow modes.

flphoto is a basic image management and display program based on the FLTK toolkit. It can read, display, print, and export many image file formats, and supports EXIF information provided by digital cameras.

Gifsicle is a powerful command-line program for manipulating GIF image and animation files. It has good support for transparency and colormap manipulation, simple image transformations (cropping, flipping), and creating, deconstructing, and editing GIF animations. It can also optimize GIF animations for space. Also included is a GIF animation viewer and a program that checks whether two GIFs look the same.

Gimmage is a simple image viewer that aims to have a minimalist interface and tries to be keyboard operable for browsing through a large number of images quickly. It is appropriate for command line usage as it accepts directories and image filenames as arguments. It has an in-application file browser that allows users to select and drag images and directories into the image viewing area in order to have them displayed.

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, a image format converter, etc.

GLiv is an OpenGL image viewer, image loading is done via Gdk-pixbuf bundled with GTK+, rendering with OpenGL and the graphical user interface uses GTK+ with GtkGLExt. GLiv is very fast and smooth at rotating, panning and zooming if you have an OpenGL accelerated graphics board. It supports thumbnails and navigating through them using two images menus.

GQview is an image viewer for X windows. Features include single click file viewing, external editor support, thumbnail previews, thumbnail caching, and adjustable zoom. GQView has the ability to compare files and list similar or duplicate images based on content. Full screen view and slideshows allow for basic presentation of images. The program offers simple image file management with the ability to copy, move, rename, and delete files. Image collections, similar to a song playlist, are also supported.

gThumb is an image viewer written for the GNOME environment. It lets you browse your hard disk, showing you thumbnails of image files. It also lets you view single files (including GIF animations), organize images in catalogs, print images, view slideshows, set your desktop background, and more. gThumb also supports Nautilus thumbnails.

gtkam is a GNOME front-end for gphoto, which allows you to retrieve photos and movies from over 300 different digital cameras.

Gwenview is a fast and easy to use image viewer/browser for KDE. All common image formats are supported. Standard features include slideshow, full screen view, image thumbnails, drag'n'drop, image zoom, and full network transparency using the KIO framework. It also provides image and directory KParts components for use in applications such as Konqueror. Additional features are provided by the KIPI image framework.

Image Viewer (IV) is a multi-frame (animated) image viewer with real-time interactive pan and zoom viewing that uses the GTK+ toolkit and Imlib. It is capable of opening and saving to any image format supported by Imlib. It features screenshots (screen capture), crop, resizing, print, fullscreen display, display on the desktop (root window), animation (creating animated GIFs), color leveling, drawing font/text strings, and editing image header information.

imgSeek is a photo collection manager capable of searching through an image database, in which the query is expressed either as a rough sketch painted by the user or as another image you supply. You simply draw a rough sketch of what you want to find and imgSeek displays for you a thumbnail view of the best matches. You may also find duplicate images automatically, generate Web photo albums, edit image metadata including EXIF JPEG data, organize images into a keyword hierarchy, and more.

Inkscape is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw, or Xara X using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format. Supported SVG features include shapes, paths, text, markers, clones, alpha blending, transforms, gradients, patterns, and grouping. Inkscape also supports Creative Commons meta-data, node editing, layers, complex path operations, bitmap tracing, text-on-path, flowed text, direct XML editing, and more. It imports formats such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and others and exports PNG as well as multiple vector-based formats. Inkscape's main goal is to create a powerful and convenient drawing tool fully compliant with XML, SVG, and CSS standards.

Jhead is a command line driven utility for extracting digital camera settings from the Exif format files used by many digital cameras. It handles the various confusing ways these can be expressed, and displays them as F-stop, shutter speed, etc. It is also able to reduce the size of digital camera JPEGs without loss of information, by deleting integral thumbnails that digital cameras put into the Exif header. If you need to add Exif support to a program, this is a simple program to cut and paste from. Many projects, including PHP, have reused code from this utility.

KPhotoAlbum (formerly known as KimDaBa, KDE Image Database) is a tool for indexing, searching, and viewing images. The indexing is done by telling KPhotoAlbum who is on the images, where the images were taken, and (optionally) adding descriptions. It is highly optimized for easy indexing of images, so that it is possible to use it with thousands of images. It also allows you to browse your images easily, based on the properties (person, location, keywords) you specified when indexing.
