Avidemux is a graphical tool to edit videos. It can open AVI, openDML, MPEG, Nuppelvideo, and BMPs. Most common codecs are supported (M-JPEG, MPEG, DivX, Xvid, huffyuv, WMA, etc.) thanks to libavcodec and libmpeg2. Video can be edited, cut, appended, filtered (resize/crop/denoise), and re-encoded to either AVI (MPEG4/MJPEG) or MPEG 1/2. The Spidermonkey Javascript engine is used to give powerful scripting capabilities.

Dirac is a general-purpose video codec aimed at resolutions from QCIF (176x144) to HDTV (1920x1080), progressive or interlaced. It uses wavelets, motion compensation, and arithmetic coding, and aims to be competitive with other state-of-the-art codecs. The Open Source implementation provides a C++ library with an encoder and decoder.

dvd-slideshow makes a DVD-compatible slideshow video with menus from a batch of pictures. It consists of a set of scripts: dvd-slideshow reads a text file list of all the pictures you want in one slideshow and creates a DVD-compatible MPEG movie with your audio tracks and specified timing. It supports effects such as fades, crops, and the Ken Burns effect. dvd-menu makes a top-level DVD menu with the output files from dvd-slideshow. dir2slideshow makes a dvd-slideshow input file from a directory of pictures. gallery2slideshow makes the input file from your Gallery album. jigl2slideshow makes the input file from your jigl album. The output is fed through dvdauthor to create DVDs.

Kdenlive is a non-linear video editor for KDE. mplayerplug-in is a browser plugin that uses mplayer to play digital media from websites. This plug-in gives Mozilla the ability to play media from a website the net without reading the source html and getting the url manually. Media is played embedded in the page or in a separate window depending on how the author of the webpage intended the media to be seen.

Transcode is a text console video-stream processing tool. It supports elementary video and audio frame transformations. It can play most audio and video codecs (MPEG 1/2/4, DivX, WMV, Vorbis, AC3, AAC, etc.), has support for VCD, SVCD, and DVD (with menus), and can read or dump streams from a network source (HTTP, UDP, DVB, MMS, etc.). It can also act as a server and send streams through the network, with optional support for audio and video transcoding.
